Simple, Affordable Living Plans

Moving into your first apartment is a big step in the growing up process. Usually this happens while you are in college or shortly there after. That means that for most people money is going to be tight and furnishing the apartment will have to be done on a budget. There is no room for Bauhaus furniture or Modloft furniture in your first home. This costs too much and isn’t a sensible choice for someone in a small starter apartment. For some college students, everything in the house is going to have to come from the cheapest source. Your first apartment is not supposed to be some contemporary, fashionable pad, but a practical living space.

A great place to look for couches or tables for your apartment is craigslist. This is a website online where people can list different items that they are selling, usually with a picture. What makes this different than a service like eBay is that the people normally require that you come to pick up the item that you purchase. You pay in person instead of online, which means that you can only shop in areas close by. While many of these items are used, most are kept in good condition. You can see the products in person before purchase, so if you are not happy, you do not have to buy it. Craigslist is perfect for affordable pieces, but not the highest quality items.

How to Survive in College

Posted on August 25th, 2009 in Basement by DIY expert

Almost every high school student looks forward to the day they graduate. Most of them will be going away to college. You spend one last summer with all their high school friends before they move away at the end of the summer. They will go from living off home cooked meals and modern design furniture to cafeteria food and old worn couches. Eventually they will get jobs and buy their own modern furniture , but that will not be for a while longer. This is the first real step in adult life. Going away to college is the perfect way to get the education and experience needed for the rest of your life.
One big part of college that is essential for growing up is the responsibility that it brings. Without your parents watching your every move, you are left to make a lot of major decisions by yourself. Whether it is deciding either to study or hang out with friends, these are choices that your parents cannot make any more. For many kids this is exactly what they need to help them grow, but some will make the wrong choices and have to either drop out or change schools. It is surely disappointing when something like that happens, but it is part of life. There are many growing pains that will occur in college, but you know what they say, “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”
When picking a college, you should take into account the many things that you enjoy. If you want to be around lots of people with things to do, you should look for a bigger school or one in a city. For some, the educational aspect may be the deciding factor. It is all just a matter of what you want to get out of your college experience. Whatever you want, just make sure that it is for the right reasons. Some kids choose a school based only on the social scene, which could backfire in the long run. Sometimes having your parents help in the decision will lead you to the best choice. The best thing a person can do is take their time and try and view every possibility. This will help them make the right choice.
Colleges and universities in the United States are all very high quality. No matter where you decide on going, you can get your degree and start a career. It just depends on how seriously you take everything. If you spend your college career going out every night, you probably will not get good grades or a good job. You should try to get involved in the many different aspects of the college experience. This will lead you to an impressive resume once you graduate. And in the economy today, everyone needs as much experience as possible. College is what you make of it, enjoy it but realize how important it is too.
