Maximize The Space In Your Small Kitchen

Many people get frustrated by the lack of work and storage space available in their small kitchens. This is a situation that many of us find ourselves in. The good news is that there is something that you can do about it. With a well thought out kitchen remodel you can maximize the space that you already have and create more space that you never knew existed!

Maximize The Space In Your Kitchen

The first step to creating the perfect kitchen is to make the best possible use of the space that you already have. The best method for maximizing your kitchen space is to make sure that you have sufficient storage space.

In a crowded kitchen, finding room for storage is very important because otherwise you’ll end up with items sitting out on the counter tops, and these will add to your feeling of a small and crowded kitchen. So, the first thing that you must do is maximize the storage space.

Creating More Space

Fortunately, there are many kitchen remodeling ideas that can be used to create more room in your kitchen. A good example is floor to ceiling shelves or cupboards. This will give you a lot of extra space in your small kitchen. This will, of course, require you to use a small foot stool or ladder to reach the higher shelves but it is well worth it. Kitchen items that are used infrequently or that usually get in your way can be stored in the top shelves, while the daily necessities can be stored at eye level or below the work surfaces. Rotating cupboards or shelves are another popular idea that you can use. These are most effective when used below the kitchen counters. Rotating cupboards can provide a lot of much needed space in a small kitchen.

Once you have created sufficient storage space for your kitchen essentials, the next step is to create more room for yourself in your working area. If you have a center island in your kitchen, remove it and put in wider counter tops. This will give you enough counter space to work with, and also give you enough room to move around your kitchen whilst working. It also creates a more open impression for your kitchen. Always remember that while you are creating more work space for yourself you should never remove any of your storage space. This will be very counter productive.

Pay Attention To Small Details

For small kitchens, the small details will help you have more space, or at least seem like you do. Use smaller kitchen rugs, which will make the overall area look bigger. Also, see if you can hang your lights higher up towards the ceiling, which will also give your room a more open appearance.

Select the appropriate furniture for your small kitchen. Removing a kitchen table and replacing it with a counter with stools will also maximize your working area. The stools should be narrow enough to be tucked under the kitchen counter after use.

Remodeling a small kitchen to create more space may seem like a big headache, but do not let this deter you. Be creative! Let your mind wander! Design the kitchen of your dreams that allows you enough space to work comfortably and happily.
