Knives and cutters are necessary things in our kitchen pantry storage. Though these blades seem to be very safe, they are really useful. They are used as everyday tool to cut and chop vegetables and other things. Life without them won’t be as simple as it is right now. However, one fact is hard to realize that these knives in a pantry cabinet come from a family of tools infamous for their ruthless and vicious usage.

Long before man actually began to eat a perfectly cut and presented food, he learned to survive by killing animals and other men. Those were really the times of survival of the toughest. What helped him in emerging better than huger and more powerful creatures was his ability to invent. He made safe shelters, he made traps and, most essentially, he made weapons. The weapons not only helped him protect himself and his family, they also helped in feeding them. It is one astonishing fact that the first weapon ever found is also one of the oldest tools ever found. However, this does not points out that man’s nature was violent from the start. In fact, this tells us that being alive and survival has forever been the main concern of a man.

The very first types of weapons ever discovered are of centuries before the metal age. These wooden clubs and pointed stones show that they were once being used as a weapon to kill someone. Most of the oldest weapons were piercing ones, for example, a wooden throwing spear of about 400,000 years ago was discovered. Using fire to harden the edges began in around 250,000 ago. Stone was taken over by copper in the Copper age, and that was soon taken over by bronze. In the Bronze Age, came blades and durin g this time the very first kind of swords were made. These were so popular that even the ferrous swords were deemed superior for a long time. Around 1200 BC, the Africans came up with new ways to make iron swords sharper and swifter and by the same time, battering ram and cavalries were already invented and warfare was everywhere.

The Romans, Egyptians and Greeks began preparing their armies along with a lot of weapons, chariots, cavalry and ships andduring the middle ages, many tactics of using weapons were invented. Swords, spears and bows were used in combats according to the situation and distance between enemies and in the meantime, Middle Eastern warriors also, gained a supreme edge in sword making and swordsmanship.

By the 16th century, gunpowder revolutionized the history of weapons, and cannons took place of most of the siege weapons. Although various types of firearms were invented in different areas in different times, guns as we know them nowadays were made in England. The Puckle gun, invented in 1718 is famous for being the oldest gun and later, showed way to further significant versions and gradually, turned into revolvers and pistols. Currently, guns being used are mostly automatic and are far more accurate and fatal. Electric guns and nuclear weapons are also a newer revolution in time. Yet, regardless of all these, blades still remain one of the preferred weapons in history.
