In a recession, the last thing that people think that they can do is a little makeover on their property or even just one room. What many people do not realize is, if you are willing to put in some good old fashioned hard work and some creative thinking, redoing a room or changing the decorating in it doesn’t have to be costly. If your couch and chairs are outdated patterns or plaids, buy one of those good quality furniture covers to neutralize the appearance and color of the existing piece. Then think about painting some old pieces of wood furniture to revive it. Also repaint the walls in a completely opposite color. Also consider altering the mantel or deep cleaning or painting the stone or brick surrounding the fireplace to change the focal point of the area.

If you want to change the look of your dining room; it is simple to perform without changing out the large elements of furniture. If you have a matching set of dark wood traditional furniture and wish for a more contemporary appearance; think about changing out just the chairs with some stainless ones to contrast with the wood for a fun twist. Another way to change a dining room is by adding new molding or wainscoting to the lower portion of the wall to make the room a separate space if it is open to the living room.
